Sounds like it'll work for IE, but that's a minority view. What about the vast number of other browsers out there?
That's the thing, there must've been a reason (a browser) why this was done. I don't know what it was written for.
Mozilla works with or without this. As far as I can tell, it's the same behavior. IE 6 and 5.5 work as I described. I don't have the other browsers.
