Explain "read only" in this context. What "changes", "back" to where?

The provider's default API is get_strref() and get_fh(). There's no set_strref(). Thats all really - its not a barrier, just a conceptual issue in my head.

So let's apply Joerg's patch that adds that :) It's been floating around for a year! Joerg?
