Hi, my friend (Paul Schreiber) who I've CC'd is having trouble upgrading to AxKit 1.6.1 on his server. It's running debian and I don't have root - his server for my site - so I'm trying to help him out but I ran out of ideas now>

Simon,

i hacked a symlink and libxml-sax-perl seems to be okay now.

try installing libiconv from dpkg (or whatever the relevant iconv library is)
i tried a few more packages, the library is there as far as i can tell.

also:
perhaps XML::SAX::PurePerl is out of date.
cpan> install XML::SAX::PurePerl
XML::SAX::PurePerl is up to date.

still getting errors with AxKit:
CPAN.pm: Going to build M/MS/MSERGEANT/AxKit-1.6.1.tar.gz

We will now check if your apache has XML symbols in it, to be sure that
AxKit will work under your version of Apache. If you do not wish to
perform this check (it shouldn't be necessary if you installed Apache
*after* installing Expat), then please just enter 0 (zero) below and
these tests will be skipped.

Path to apache httpd? [/usr/local/apache/bin/httpd] /sbin/apache
No apache httpd found at /sbin/apache

AxKit needs the iconv system library to work properly. This comes by
default with most Unix systems, however it may be that you do not
have the development libraries installed, or possibly that you just
don't have iconv available on your system. For *BSD systems, iconv
is available in your distribution's ports collection. For Win32
systems, a google search will often suffice to find a Win32 library
version.
