I write all my text files in UTF-8, especially XML (I'm italian, and
so I've got to input lots of accented characters, plus sometimes I
want some japanese kanji in my text...)
Perl 5.8 has no problems with utf-8 (as long as you properly open your
filehandles: open FH, "<:utf8", "file"), and using it instead of
entities will speed up a bit the loading of the XML: no more parsing
of the DTD just to declare entitites!
