I'm new to axkit, learning perl, and am somewhat new to using XML for
anything somewhat complex. I'm trying to work on a basic weblog for my
site using axkit, and I'm also hoping to use it for other sites that
I'm currently working on as well. Since I'm fairly new to most of
this, though, I'm a bit stuck.

I have both a simple xpathscript and css stylesheet written for my
site. It appears as if I'm almost entirely successful at what I'm
attempting. I'm struggling to include other snippets of xml into my
pages, however, and am not sure what to do.

I'm designing this site such that subdirectories beneath the root can
hold entirely separate sites if desired, though often they will
include links to their parent. My site's topbar is intended to link to
pages related to the current level. For instance, the top level of the
site links to a biography, site news, resume, etc. A sidebar links to
children, which may be portions of the same site, or completely
different. For instance, /studio/ has no children, but its topbar
links to a description of my studio, track list, licensing
information, etc.

Initially I created <related /> and <children /> tags which listed
<ulink /> tags. These tags were included directly into the page
source. I'd like to factor this information out into separate files,
though, so I created sidebar.xml and menu.xml files which reside in
each directory. I can't for the life of me get these included into my
pages, though. I've tried <!--#include file="sidebar.xml" -->,
etc. but the comments aren't even making it. AFAIK I have SSI set up
correctly, XBitHack on and have chmod'd /index.xml +x. Should this be
enough to get this working, or am I missing something obvious? Am I
going about this the wrong way?

As I've probably been somewhat vague, I've tar-gzipped up my site for
anyone who may be interested in taking a look. The file weighs in at
just under 1.5k, and is available at
http://www.thewordnerd.info/www.thewordnerd.info.tar.gz.

Thanks in advance for any help!
