I guess what I don't understand is that I would assume that they would be reset every time the page is loaded but is there a way to keep them from being reset so I can build up the array and hash I need? Or is there a better way to handle column spans in an .xps page?

Since you don't assign () to them in the "my" line they won't get reset every time the page is executed.
