The Debian axkit package was orphaned a couple of months ago. This could
prevent AxKit from getting into the upcoming "sarge" release. I like
AxKit and I'd like it to be easy for Debian users to get started with it.
So I just sent an e-mail to the debian-mentors list volunteering to serve
as the Debian package maintainer.

There are no bugs filed against the axkit packages in the Debian BTS, so I
anticipate that most of what I will do at first is to learn how to
shepherd packages through the autobuild and propagate-to-testing stages of
the release process. If there are specific patches that people would like
to see applied to the Debian package (or to other packages that AxKit
depends on), please let me know directly or via the axkit-users list.
Ditto for sample code and test cases that you would like to see added to
the axkit-examples package and for general advice about packaging for end
users.

Thanks to the AxKit developers for creating a very useful toolkit for
XML/Web development. (Most of my work with it isn't on a public web site,
but there's an article on www.sane.net about a trivial implementation of
an XML-RPC server using AxKit.) Hopefully no one minds my appearing out
of the blue and offering to maintain the Debian package; if someone else
feels more qualified to do so, let me know and I'll step aside.
