Well, the docs are already misleading somewhat:
I was going by memory... I checked both docs and source, and A:X:Cookie just passes the values to Apache::Cookie, which in turn passes it to libapreq.
Either way, I've tried as an attribute or as a child tag with no luck.
The only thing I can suggest is to try Apache::Cookie directly (w/o AxKit, in a simple mod_perl handler) and then, since it should still not work, update your libapreq installation.
Another thing (maybe check this first): you can ask firefox to "allow only for session" cookies from some or all domains. It should not ask you in this instance, but you never know... try with a clean Firefox profile, or with another browser.
