Hello Robert, unity-2d-launcher and unity-2d-panel register themselves to be restarted when they die. It is done via a key in their desktop files: /usr/share/applications/unity-2d-panel.desktop /usr/share/applications/unity-2d-launcher.desktop [...] X-GNOME-AutoRestart=true Changing its value to 'false' should do the trick.
