Last cycle it was noticed that there is a problem when using the fglrx
driver and Compiz Vsync. I did a few experiments today with an AMD GPU
and the fglrx driver. Activating Compiz Vsync option negatively impact
Unity's rendering performance.
So I ask: how is Compiz Vsync supposed to behave? What API does it uses
that causes the performance hit?
Is this an issue in Compiz or something in the Fglrx drivers to
investigate?
AMD seems to think that things are alright on their side. Can people in
the know shed more light on this (Sam, Thomas)? Is this only limited to
the fglrx driver?
