Regarding the desktop vision, I think it has improved awesomely. The 
notification area is much more stylish and useful, the current default theme 
and icons of gnome has a refreshing air over it and yet not moving away from
the characteristic colors that defines the Ubuntu distribution. I experience 
moving to ibus for multi-lingual keyboard input was a good choice.

What might be missing though is automatically adding file creation templates to 
~/templates when a new software is installed. The default games could be 
improved, there are other foss games in genres other than casual games 
available(just saying).

More importantly, I'm concerned about the desktop vision. And I think
that concern is valid. If you want proof, check the mailing list stats.
This has generated the most mail of any thread in quite a while, even
Mark's post about closing the list.  The people on this list are
passionate supporters of Ubuntu.  And again, they are the marketing
muscle behind it's success.
