What can be implemented instead is to "open selected files with a
single click". Currently clicking the single selected item does
nothing.

This way its equal to a "slow double click" to open files, where it
doesn't matter how long it takes between the two clicks. Plus, it
doesn't interfere with the drag-and-drop behavior of files - you still
can click first to select, then drag. Best of both worlds.
