We can't drag a file onto a launcher in the Unity dock to open them with the application represented by that launcher.. Why is that so? Comparing Unity with GNOME-Ubuntu, this is a clear regression in my eyes. Launchers are less intelligent, if they don't function as Drag n Drop destinations also. That might be a constraint by design, but i can't think of a purpose for that constraint. Since open-with never really received much attention anyway, being the bridge between content and application, at least the drag and drop functionality should be revisited in this respect. It is a very simple concept: I drag a file onto the "Gimp" launcher, and i can do stuff with it in gimp. same goes for the other way round, i.e. i drag the Gimp launcher onto a file, and intuitively expect the content file to be managed and presented to me in the good old Gimp fashion.
Drag and Drop needs to be tended to carefully, so i can understand if this functionality is underway, but has simply not *yet* been implemented. But if plans are to not make the launchers in the Unity dock drop destinations, then i'd really want to know why not.
