Hi Cheri,
I also have had a hard time remembering the difference between grandfather and 
grandmother accents marks until someone told me to think that grandfather has a 
HAT on......like a V turned upside down.....a little hat:)? That has helped me 
remember and maybe it will help others:)

I do mix up the accents on those words (grandma/grandpa) because they are so
similar to me (non-native speaker).
