Hello Maria Elena,

The marriage of 1757 is really not too early.......say Maria do
Espirito Santo was 23 years old when she married in 1857.....she would
have at least 20 more years of childbearing age...taking you to
1777.....When I do research, I always actually start with the year
BEFORE the couple got married and look through the baptisms for their
children...you would be surprised to see how many babies are born
early...so you can't just start looking 9 months after the marriage. I
actually look for EVERY child born to a couple. You are lucky if
there is an index as I personally have not had indices in the records
that I have researched.

For the question about maybe some children being baptized in Sao
Roque or Sao Pedro......I would just look through BOTH parishes for
possible children. It is not unusual for a couple to live in the
parish of the wife and then move back to where the husband came from
etc.....so you should look in both places if you find you have big
spaces of time with no children born. I have found that most women
will have children up to about 43-44 years old....I have found some
that are older and I usually try to look through the baptisms until I
know the woman is in her late 40's.

I personally would not recommend looking at obits yet as a person can
die anytime and they are difficult to search unless you have some
parameters about when you think someone died......you can get those
clues, for instance, when you find their children's marriages as they
will often say if the parents of a bride or groom is deceased.

I realize that I am pretty out of practice in reading records when I
look at this one that you posted...the first part, as you said is hard
to read for me. It does say that Antonio is a widower and was married
to Maria da Silva.....to find out who his parents were, look back in
time and try to find that marriage.....between Antonio de Mello and
Maria da Silva. It looks like Antonia do Espirito Santo is the
daughter of Matthias de Mello and Maria ??? Carvelho or something like
that... this is not a surname that I am familiar with. I am sure that
someone else might recognize it.
