MARCELINO DE ALMEIDA MONIZ November 1, 1931 - December 11, 2008 It is with
great sadness that we announce the passing of Marcelino on December 11, 2008
at the age of 77 years after a tragic accident. Marcelino was born on the
Island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, Portugal, where he met his wife Nubelia.
After graduating from teachers college they immigrated to Canada in 1956.
Soon after arriving in Toronto, the first Portuguese Canadian Association
was created and Marcelino was nominated as the director. This eventually led
to his position of Vice Consul of Portugal in Toronto. Marcelino was highly
respected in the Portuguese community and throughout his career met with
many dignitaries, leaders and Prime Ministers in government. He was a very
special man; a man of great wisdom, patience and simple pleasures. His laugh
will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Marcel will be greatly missed
by his only child, Christopher, his daughter-in-law Jacquie and
granddaughter Tori as well as many relatives and friends. He was predeceased
by his wife, Nubelia, of 52 years on September 15, 2008. In lieu of flowers,
memorial tributes may be made directly to The Alzheimer Society of Alberta
and the Northwest Territories, Administrative Office, 10531 Kingsway Avenue,
Edmonton AB T5H 4K1, 1-866-950-5465, www.alzheimer.ab.ca. Forward
