Sam,
Does your local library have audio books? If you are looking for some conversation words, perhaps you could download an audio book and "listen". That way you would have the pronunciation as well. I have seem mp3's for all sorts of languages available. It sounds like BYKI might work just to learn a few polite words before making a trip to the Azores. I think people generally appreciate one trying to speak the "native" language. Thanks much for your input. I own BYKI version 3.6 that I purchased about a year and a half ago. I bought it just so that I could learn some words in Portuguese and for that, I think it works very well. It just depends on what you are after. There may be other programs that might be better to learn more conversational Portuguese? I don't know. But this is relatively cheap and, like I say, depending on your needs and expectations, might do nicely for you. Or maybe not? :)I looked at the Rosetta Stone program which is most likely much better for learning to speak and sentence structure, etc. But it is MUCH more expensive, like several hundred dollars! Also, it only offers Brazilian Portuguese. This is probably not much help, I know. It has been a long time since I worked with it, but I WAS pleased when I did use it. It met my needs and expectations. Has anyone used this language program? I'm thinking of purchasing it and wondered if anyone on the list had any experience with it.
