My personal opinion is that Facebook is so popular and so worldwide, with so many people having facebook accounts, that it might be a way to connect with people that have a general interest in the azores, but are not interested in genealogy. I think it is a great way to make new connections. My husband comes from Lomba da Maia in Sao Miguel and I have found a page called "Lomba da Maia" on facebook. It is directed to people who have parents or grandparents from this village. It seems alot of people are connecting that way. I would recommend joining Facebook and searching different keywords, you may be surprised with what you find. I know I was. You can find classmates, old co-workers, etc. Maria Sousa

Why does one need Facebook when we have the Azores googlegroup? Does it serve another purpose?
