Luciana, I tried to send this to your Iraposo address but it bounced.
I have fond memories of Niteroi. I lived there in 1952, and my son Steve was born there. I was a journalist with McGraw-Hill World News, with office in Rio at ave. Franklin Roosevelt. I used to enjoy the commute by ferry to Rio (there was no bridge at that time). A year or so later the office moved to Sao Paulo, where another son, Donald, was born. Doug is one of my seven children, the family genealogist. We used to enjoy the beach at Icarai. I'm sure Niteroir has changed a lot since I lived there. My father also lived in Rio before he moved to America and changed his name to Holmes from Manuel Leal daRocha Homem, of Terceira. My mother was a Silveira, from Pico. So far as I know, I don't have any relatives in Brazil. Would love to revist, but at age 90 it's not likely. You see, we "cariocas" always considered Niteroi's best feature THE WONDERFUL VIEW FROM RIO.. (lol) But since I got in touch with my cousins I've been there several times and it is a really nice place - looks as though we're very far from Rio, so different things look there... What's your relation with Doug da Rocha Holmes? Hope we stay in touch abraços Luciana On May 25, 5:43 pm, LIONEL J HOLMES <[email protected]> wrote: > This doesn't answer your query, but I couldn't help responding because of the > reference to Niteroi, where I lived in 1952.
