We are home from a wonderful 5 weeks in the Azores, our first trip.
Thank you all for your help and advice. We located tons of family
records at the Archivo. We found everything we were looking for, and
a great deal more.

Once I translate everything, I'll post a summary of the information,
that now includes 5 generations, rather than the 3 we had to start.
It includes the names Arraial, Santos, Costa, and Barboza both from
the San Pedro and St. Michaels parishes in Villa Franco do Campo.

Then, with the help of an Ex-pat friend who lives in Ponta Delgada, we
were able to find living relatives in Vila Franca do Campo. Since we
don't speak Portuguese, we could not have been as successful without a
translator at the civil registro office in Vila Franca in finding more
recent records.

The real key was found in the street listing that was consistent
through several family records, Rua de Castello. Fortunately it is a
very short street, so with our friends help, we located the decedents
of the daughter who stayed behind when the family emigrated to the US
in 1904.

We visited 5 islands, and also connected with relatives from the Gomes
family on Flores.

If you'd like to hear more about our trip, take a look at my blog or
let me know.
