I was just reading "Land as Far as the Eye Can See, Portuguese in the Old West" by Donald Warrin & Geoffrey L. Gomes. The footnote references "California State Census manuscripts, 1852, El dorado and Mariposa counties. Does anyone know if this census was state-wide or just for the 2 counties that are mentioned?
