I would think Austin is Agostinho in Portuguese.

My Great Grandmother was Agostinho.

Just curious, the name Austin is not listed in “History of the Azores Islands
by James Guill. Is this name anglicized?

I do not know if the name was anglicized or not, I know that the 1880 census
report in MA. said that both of Joseph's parents were born in the Azores. The
parents had at least 3 children, Andrew, Joseph and Ann who all came to this
country separatly.Joseph was a highly educated man, who was studdying to be a
priest, but changed to mariner. They all maried Tilton's.
