I have a marriage record from Lisbon. On the record it says in the sidelines, something like Tapei? certidao para ultramar um and then it gives the date, and signed by coadjutor. I believe this translates to Certificate for overseas, the date, etc. My question, would this have been needed if he/she/they travelled to another Portuguese entity? I ask this because I am told this person came to the US on a ship he owned and returned to Portugal and I am trying to find out if this is the truth as that would then give the the date of this travel. Would Lisbon have issued a Passporte before they left, and how would I get a copy of this, for either of these people born in Lisbon.
