Just to get this story straight and to again ask for the information I need: Maria Cristo Moraes was born (oral history info from her daughter) May 22, 1885, in Lomba da Santa Barbara, Sao Miguel. Her parents were Joao de Moraes and Jacintha Libiana. I have looked, had 2 reserchers look for her baptism in the place and from 1883 when her brother, Jose was born until 1894, when she would have been 5 years old (again oral history says she was 5 when her father died in 1899). Mother would have been 51 years old at that time. I have found all her sibllings, her parent's marriage, baptisms, etc. back to the beginning of the records. What is missing is Maria Cristo's baptism that would connect her to the family. Maria C. de Moraes married Filippe Perreira da Silva in St. Marys church in Bristol, RI on November 27, 1909. This marriage was verified by the church secretary. I was told there was some difficulty finding the marriage because the names were written in Latin. I am now trying to find a Notice of Intention of Marriage that I have been told existed before a marriage took place. Elaine has obtained such a document for a marriage that occurred in 1909. I hope to find some document for which Maria Cristo had to give the information rather than just receiving oral history second or third hand. Hope that gives a better picture of where I am with this search. Thanks for all the help, Celeste Celeste Perry [email protected]
