Art, I don't think so but I do not have very much information on my Machados
yet. My Mary Machado (1875-1942) was my great grandmother. She was married
to Manuel Medeiros and came to the US from Faial in 1906. Manuel had come
here a few years ahead and established a ranch near Martinez, Ca.. Mary came
with 3 of their children in 1906 into Boston and then traveled by train to
California. I am assuming at this point that she was a native of Faial but I
don't have any documents yet that establish that as fact yet.

Jeanetta,

I wish there was a connection. I haven't found anyone with a connection yet.
My Machados are from Faial. Maria Machado (1875-1942) married Manuel
Medeiros (1875-1959). Maria and 3 children arrived in Boston in 1906 and
traveled by train to Contra Costa County, California to meet Manuel who had
come a few years prior and established their ranch.

Jacki,
I, too am researching Machado. Mine were born in altres, terceira, azores
in 1881-84. Their names were Joaquin Vieira Machado and Marie Isabel
Pinheiro. They married in Dec of 1901 and immigrated in July of 1902. They
went first to Lowell (Stanton) Massachusettes where my grandmother Marie was
born in 1903. I have found no record of her birth. They had several
children who died shortly after birth. They moved to California and settled
in Tulare, CA. He was a cattle buying and I believe that he had a brother,
Arthur, who was a meat cutter?. They had 7 other children Wilhemina,
Joaquin (Jack) Jr, Amelia, John, Zora, Virginia. Does any of this ring a
bell with you?
Jeanetta

Thanks for shedding some light on that! I knew that many people in the
village probably knew who the father was, but it never dawned on me that the
priest heard it in confession. Thanks for sharing.

Boy, if only they had not been bound by the seal of the confessional...so
many genealogical dead ends would have been solved! Happy Easter!
