Here is an odd record from Santo António além Capelas:

24 Jul 1711: Tomé Rodrigues Pavão of Bretanha, son of Pedro de Sousa and
Amélia de Benevides to Esperança de Viveiros, of Santo António, daughter of
Francisco Viveiros da Costa and Ana Jorge. The marriage was performed in the
Chapel of Santa Bárbara in the Fort of S. Brás in Ponta Delgada because the
groom was imprisoned there. It was feared that he would escape as he had done
once before, jumping over the wall of the fort.

Here is another from the same parish:

11 Aug 1737: José da Costa, son of José da Costa and Bárbara da Costa to
Antónia de Resendes, daughter of António de Oliveira and Maria de Resendes.
The groom bragged ("gabava-se") of having had relations ("cópula") with the
bride's sister.

and another:

29 Jan 1771: Francisco Duarte de Medeiros, son of Francisco de Medeiros and
Joana Botelho to Teresa Botelho, daughter of Francisco de Lima and [Barbara
de Medeiros] of Capelas. They did not receive the blessing because the
bride had lived a dishonest life before her marriage.

and yet another:

19 Aug 1781: João de Sousa Mota, widower of Maria Cabral, buried in this
parish, to Úrsula da Conceição, daughter of Adriano do Rego and Francisca de
Oliveira of Fenais da Luz. The blessing was not granted because the bride is
a scandalous woman.
