My g g grandfather was Joseph Vieria (also known as William Joseph Simmiss born approx 1848 in Portugal, profession = sailor, married Susan Eliza Davy or Davey on Aug 22 1887 in Nelson, NZ his father - my g g g grandfather, as mentioned - was Joseph Vieria, a labourer, and his mother was Theresa??? Vieria, maiden name Simmiss. I think that Joseph (g g g grandfather) died March 1886 as on his sons marriage licence it shows his mother as a widower. I assume that she then took her maiden name again as we are of Simmiss, maybe Simas line.
