Hi Pat,

The videos in the accompanying article that I posted explains the digitizing
process. I don't remember when they started digitizing. They said it will
take about 10 years to complete According to Wikipedia, the digitizing will
be completed late 2010 or early 2011. However, I found a reference in Dick
Eastman's newsletter where he said in October 2006 that FamilySearch
digitization will do this or will do that. "Will" indicates the future. By
2007, there are many references to the digitization and that is when
INDEXING began, it looks like. So if the digitization began in 2007 and
will take about 10 years, that would be 2017, not 2011, as Wikipedia
states. And the indexing won't be complete by then. That is all volunteer
manpower.

In Dick Eastman, it also said that they are doing the digitization of the
most popular collections first. Considering the vast numbers of North
American researchers doing genealogy in their own countries, I would think
that the Azores, Portugal, Madeira, and Cape Verde are fairly far down the
list.

People have written in to Dick Eastman to ask when this or that will be
digitized. He stated that he gets the feed from someone at FamilySearch
when something is done and that is what he posts. Dick, who is a national
speaker, author, and lecturer, has no other insider info. I seriously doubt
that there's any way for me to find out, if they are not telling Dick.
