My mother and father would go visit a dear friend, Manuel Piques from Cambridge, MA when I was young. I would play with their youngest daughter until we moved away and him and his wife passed on. The five children moved to different areas, but I would bump into his granddaughter once in a while and that's been maybe fifteen years ago. I remember Louis, Gabriella, Albertina, Laura and Eva. I know Louis was married with children when I was eleven. He's probably around 73 years old. So Manuel would have been born around 1910? I remember asking my dad if they were related and he said my mother's father (my grandfather) Manuel Borges Giesta who was a furniture maker back in Ribeira Grande was his mentor before he came to this country. There might have been some connection from one side to the other, but my mom never said anything about that. My Aunt Natalie Pacheco Furtado's father Manuel Pacheco being a carpenter from Cambridge knew of him so I will ask her if she remembers anything. There is Rodrigues on both sides of my family.
