Here's what happens when a group of researchers show up en masse to Salt
Lake!

As some of you know, the Family History Library (FHL) discontinued their
paleography (handwriting) series probably around 10 years ago. This was a
40+ page booklet with handwriting samples, abbreviations, names, and other
goodies. They did make it available on microfiche for you to order through
your local FHC and copy from that.

Kathy Cardoza, webmaster of the Azores GenWeb, contacted the FHL a couple of
years ago and was granted permission to reprint only portions of this
copyrighted work.

Last October, I met Marilyn Thompson from this list. She is affiliated with
the FHL in Salt Lake. I mentioned the concern about the paleography being
available to a wide audience. I don't recall who she tried to network with
at that time to get it online.

Now we have a group of researchers here. Marilyn tried again. She found
the right people and made it happen!!! It is a large file for the wiki site
on Family Search, so they had to break it up into 4 parts. Here's the link:

https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Portuguese_Genealogical_Word_List#Additional_Resources

You have to scroll down to the section titled "Additional Resources" and
download Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4.

Thanks, Marilyn, for finding the right people and making it happen!!
