This conference was AWESOME!!!!!

I am fairly new to researching my Portuguese line. I am so happy that I was
able to attend this special conference. When I started searching this line I
was so discouraged because I was coming up with nothing! I was searching
like I did for my father's line which was a breeze. Well I learned real
quick at this conference how MUCH the Portuguese people love to change their
names around for whatever reason!! With this new knowledge I am able to
search much better with MORE of an open mind with the name changes! I
learned how to navigate thur the CCA site, and the Family search site. We
were even taught how to read or bumble our way thru the Portuguese language,
this was a HUGE plus for me. What I mean by this is, I learned how to pick
out the important words within the document, this was GREAT help!!

The last day of the conference was ALL research day. At the end of the day
Cheri was able to give me about an hour of her time, hands on I would say. I
had never stepped into a research center until this conference, so for me it
was a bit overwhelming. Cheri showed me how to navigate the family search,
reminded me to read the film notes, how to read what I needed from the film,
showed me how to find it, showed me how put the reels on and scroll thru the
film. She explained to me watch the center line when scrolling thru because
it would be a huge clue as to when a book ended or new item section began,
this way you would not have to scroll page by page, you could scroll pretty
fast until you got to the area you needed. I believe it would have taken me
awhile to figure that out!! Cheri and Rosemarie sat with me as we looked for
my people and helped me read the language and pick out the important words,
and clued me into looking how the priests would write their letters, and or
abbreviate first names. I think I caught on pretty good! We did not find the
original person we started to look for BUT did find a document to another
person on my line!!! Cheri then showed me how I needed to fix up the
document and save to my thumb drive. This hands on was exteremely helpful
for me! THANKS CHERI and ROSEMAIRE!!!!

All the folks that attended this conference were AWESOME!! Such a great
bunch of people. I have never visited the Azores, so I truly enjoyed
listening to those that have traveled, there. They all had some type of
story and or experience to share. It helped me to understand much more about
the people of the Azores. Everyone was so helpful with one another, the
networking was fantastic. In fact a few of these people live in or near by a
city that my ancestors lived, and they are willing to search for some
information for me since I came up empty on my attempts.

I am a people person, so I miss all of you already :-( I do hope that I
will be able to get together with Pat Nostrome and her husband and with Pat
Girard ~ these 3 people live only about 10-15 minutes away from me, so I
hope we can get together and research.

Cheri and Rosemarie THANKS!!! Thanks for taking time out of your busy lives
and coordinating this AWESOME conference, this was truly a blessing for me.
I hope I will be able to attend the next! :-)

To all you attendees:

TAKE CARE,
Tracy

I went too.Definately a great success Cheri and Rosemarie! I agree
with everything Kathy has said...and MORE!
I'm still pretty new to researching. I learned about all sorts of
resources to look at that can offer a gold mine of info. With your
guidance these last few days, i feel more confident. Thank you so much
for putting it together. I don't know when i would ever got myself to
finally see the Archive Library in Salt Lake , but now i'm inspired to
go back. I went alone to the Azores conference...but that's not how it
ended. Everyone was kind and great to hang out with. I just wish i had
more time with you all. For anyone who missed this one...I would
definately recommend you try and make it out for the next one.
