Do you have any information from the Azores on your line which might help?
They could have changed Simas to Simmiss.

Linda

Just reading the information in regards to the ancestral lines connected
with Simas family during the early 1700. I am just wondering if there is a
connection as my name is Simmiss, family originated from the Azores. Do you
have any information that this may be a connection as I have come to a stand
still with my research.

This is from John:

The information from the index gives us a Manoel Furtado de Sousa born about
1650. He seems to be the oldest documented one till now, an ancestral of all
these Furtados de Sousa around Ponta Garca and Achada in early 1700
connected with Simas and Resende families. That Margarida de Resende, dtr of
Manuel Furtado de Sousa and Isabel de Simas, married to Manuel Pacheco do
Amaral in 1749 in Achada, must be a granddaughter of that old Manuel Furtado
de Sousa from 1605 and his wife Maria de Resende. Following Frutuoso we can
find 8 grandsons, 6 granddaughters, 2 grandgrandsons and I
grandgranddaughter of Martim Anes Furtado de Sousa around Vila Franca in
1580.

So George, we are connected like Manoel, Hermano, Rick, by our Furtado's
being from Vila Franca and Achada which brought down my Furtado's/Pimentels
as Rick's which in turn stemmed from the Travossos/Cabral/Velho lines on one
side. I understand there are the de Simas, Resendes, Mederios, Rebelo,
Botelho and Rego lines as well which I see we are all intertwined by those
lines, too. Am I correct on that?

So we are all just one big happy family!
