My ggrandfather, Augustus Garcia Monteiro, was born March 3, 1867, in "Fayal, Azores" (as written on my grandfather's birth record). He immigrated to the United States in 1885 (as given in the 1910 Census); his original destination was the Boston area; he later moved to Oakland, CA, in 1905. He was naturalized on February 17, 1902. He was still alive as of April 5, 1930, when he was recorded in the 1930 Census as 62 y.o. He married Olivia Perry, who was born c. 1871 in Fayal, Azores. According to the 1910 Census, she immigrated in 1883; the 1930 Census says 1879. They had two children: Augustus Perry (June 20, 1895-May 28, 1957) and Olivia (c. 1897-?) (both were born in Boston).
