I would like to find my relatives in the Azores. My grandmother told
me that we were decendants of royalty. Did my relatives go into hiding
during the 1910 revolution?

My grandfather Antonio Texeira Avila is from Manadas, Azores, where he
was born on April 1, 1891. He is the brother of Mrs. Mary Cardoza of
Santa Clara, California, Rose, Morris, Hilmar, Manuel, John and Mary
Avila of Azores Islands.

My grandmother Maria Silva was born in Erie, PA on August 23, 1900.
Her brother Tony Silva was born October 3, 1901.

My grandmother Maria’s father is Manuel Anthony Silva (Silver, used by
some of her siblings in PA.) came from the Azores where he was born in
1871. My grandmother Maria’s mother Mary Marshall (Machada, was used
on a legal document, not Marshall) was born in 1878.

In 1906, Mary Marshall (Machado) took my grandmother Maria and her
younger brother Tony Silva to Sao Jorge, Azores to live with their
grandparents. She abandoned them. After their grandparents died, my
grandmother Maria and her brother Tony Silva lived in a castle with
their aunt, a countess till she was murdered. My grandfather Antonio
Texeira Avila and my grandmother Maria Silva came to America in
October 1920. They married November 10, 1920 in Newman, California.

My grandmother’s father Manuel Anthony Silva died in 1948 and my
grandmother’s mother Mary Marshall died in 1955. My grandfather
Antonio Texeira Avila died in Petaluma, California November 3, 1955
and my grandmother Maria Silva died April 2, 1973. My grandmother’s
brother Tony Silva died October 3, 1965. They are all buried at
Calvary Cemetery in Petaluma, California.

Maria Silva 1899 or 1900
