First of all they can be about anything... extractions for certificates and 
other ends, usualy they are about death of the person, or partner as in this 
case, marriage, confirmation, etc.
In my wonderings it has mostly been about death of self or partner and marriage 
as well as extractions.
 
It reads, and I paraphrase " Widowed by Manoel da Costa Pires on 7 sep 1956 as 
can be read on entry #148 of this Conservatory, Lagoa 7 Sep 1956, The assistant 
Antonio Canario"
That can of cousre be found in detail in the book of obituaries for 1956, #148.
