My maternal ggrandfather was Augustus Garcia Monteiro. AG Monteiro was born on Faial (though I don't know the town) on March 3, 1867; he became a naturalized citizen on February 17, 1902 (Certificate No. 401-191, USCC Boston Mass). According to the 1930 Census for San Leandro, Alameda County, California, he immigrated in 1885. His wife was Olivia Perry (is that a shortened form of Pereira?); she was born c. 1864 on Faial and immigrated in 1883 (according to the 1910 Census) or 1879 (according to the 1930 Census). They had two children, Olivia, born c. 1893-4, and Augustus Perry (my maternal grandfather), born June 20, 1895, both in Massachusetts (Boston area). AP Monteiro died March 27, 1957, in Santa Clara, California.

I found several newspaper articles in the Oakland Tribune about my ggrandfather's activities with the UPEC (what is the full name?). He was in two one-act comedies during the UPEC's celebration of the 3rd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Portugal in 1913. There are many other people listed in the article dated October 6, 1913.

Evidently someone has put up a lot of information on Ancestry.com (which is where I found most of the details). Does anyone on this list recognize any of these names?
