Hello Hardrick,
I am forwarding this to the Azores list as there are several researchers that have done more research in Vila Franca than I have. You can join the Azores group by going to this link: http://groups.google.com/group/Azores As far as where to look next: I would suggest the Dartmouth Family History Center in Dartmouth (It is not far off I-195) George Pacheco who is on this list works there and they have Microfilm of all the church records from the Acores. The family history centers are run by the LDS and use of them is free. You only pay for making copies and a small fee if you have to order a film from Salt Lake City I realize that Clinton is hour+ drive to Dartmouth but I only suggest it because they already have the films there. I am not sure but there may be a FHC in the Worchester MA. Rick Richard Francis Pimentel Epping, New Hampshire, USA Researching Bretanha, Ribeirinha, Ribeira Grande, Achade Grande, and Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Acores -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, October 23, 2010 10:19 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Cape Verdean Ancestry and the Azores Hello Mr. Pimentel: I fancied myself as a superb investigator, however, Genealogy Research is a whole new ball game. I am assisting my wife in tracing/researching her Cape Verdean Ancestry. For years she assumed her family immigrated to Falmouth, Massachusetts directly from Cape Verde only to recently learn they immigrated from Sao Miguel, Azores. The surname for her family is Andrade (Andrada in one Census and Andrade with an accent on a Death Certificate). Her father was born in Massachusetts but her grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfathers (all named Manuel Andrade) were born in Sao Miguel. We suspect it was the previous generation that immigrated from Cape Verde to the Azores. The information we have was determined from U.S. Death Certificates which provide the information of the mother and father of her ancestors. Our trail has temporarily ended with the birth of her Great Grandfather at St. Michael, Azores in 1872. He died in East Falmouth, Massachusetts on December For example, her Great Grandfather was Manuel Andrade born in 1872 at Villa Franca, Azores His Father was: Manuel Andrade born at Villa Franca, Azores His Mother: Mary Santos born at Villa Franca, Azores His wife, My wife's Great Grandmother was Mary Michael born in 1883 at St. Michael, Azores and died at East Falmouth, MA in 1956 Her Father was (first name unknown) Last name: Michael unknown DOB born at St . Michael Her Mother was listed as Unknown Their son was Manuel Andrade born at St. Michael in 1896 and died at Falmouth, Massachusetts on August 21, 1924 They immigrated to the U.S. in 1903 according to the 1910 U.S. Federal Census What information is available in the U.S other than U.S. Census information that might provide additional leads. How does one request is vital records (birth, death, marriage) information re her ancestors that may be on record at the Azores?
