I just heard about this from tech support at The Master Genealogist: www.flip-pal.com
It's a portable scanner that you can carry in your laptop bag. It runs on two AA batteries. No need to hook it up to your computer either, you can just put the SD card thing into the adapter (flash drive looking thing) and it reads your images from that. If your paper is large, it has software that is good at stitching the pieces together for you to make it all one image. The SD card can hold 760 images at 600 dpi. It's $150 with free shipping, but they only ship to the U.S., but others can order it through Amazon.com and they will ship it to you outside the U.S. (I can't figure out how much though). This particular generation does not have the place for the security lock though. So if you were in a public library researching by yourself and needed to use the restroom, you'd have to take it with you. Just passing the word.
