Debbie,

It sounds as if you had your son's mitochondrial DNA tested. DNA on
Ancestry is very, very loosely organized. I think either I started an Azores
DNA group over there or Katherine Borges did. It probably has only 2 or 3
people in it. I'll call Katherine. When DNA started to benefit genealogy,
Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) was the company that was chosen to house the Azores
DNA project (there's Portugal, Brasil, Madeira, and Cape Verde too). FTDNA
is the oldest and largest DNA testing company for genealogists. They have
over 200,000 Y (male) DNA results and over 123,400 mtDNA results (testing
the mother's side). There are 267 members in the Azores DNA project on
FTDNA. There are more results than 267 because some members have had Y-DNA,
mtDNA, and now autosomal DNA (Family Finder) tested. FTDNA is good with
trying to get people into a group. They are also good in comparing you
across the entire FTDNA database if you are not in a group. On FTDNA you
just log in and click on your matches and there they are.

You need to tell me what DNA test you had done for your son on Ancestry.
