For the people who tested on Ancestry, I will get back to you. Katherine went to England and will be gone for about 3 weeks. I need to ask her about the projects on Ancestry before proceeding, so give me a few weeks.
Now for Family Finder on Family Tree DNA (FTDNA): I ordered my dad's Family Finder in early December and expected his results in early Jan. However, FTDNA changed over to a more powerful chip, so this delayed the results almost 6 weeks. FTDNA will convert all Family Finder testees over to the new, more powerful chip, but it will take up to 2 months to complete. So my dad's was in the first batch under this new chip. He had only 2 matches (to start - he'll have more after 6 weeks). For those who don't know, my dad is only half Portuguese - on his paternal side. His maternal side is a mixture of other European nationalities. The two people my dad matched on Family Finder had no Portuguese surnames. So I knew to hunt through my dad's maternal side. There's cousin marriages on his maternal side too. That means that there is more of a chance that he retains DNA from those lines since he has it twice. John Damron married Anna Ladd, his first cousin. Anna Ladd is the daughter of Noble Ladd and Judith Dameron. The other person my dad matched only listed Ladd. He didn't know which Ladd couple his Ladd came from. After a few emails, we figured out he also came from Anna Ladd's parents, who were born in the early 1730s. My dad was born in the early 1930s - 200 years later. He still holds DNA from this couple in his genetic makeup. Because I have a good paper trail on this side, the other fellow now knows he's a descendant of Noble Ladd and Judith Dameron, not the other couple. I don't think many people ordered Family Finder at the Holiday Sale in December. As the database is converted over to the new chip, I'll let the list know how many matches I was able to confirm (although I think they will all be on his American side) through this test. As admins, we only know that they've held the Sizzling Summer Sale in June and the Holiday Sale in December. We don't know what they will put on sale, but they seem to have Y-DNA on sale. Family Finder has only gone on sale once - last December. And now that they are dealing with a new company with a more powerful chip, I don't know what that means for sales, but I can keep my fingers crossed.
