I have hit a real brick wall on this "uncle" of mine. I have the
birth/baptismal record from Lajes do Pico. The immigration information I
have on the family (from Ancestry.com) said that the family (name was
misspelled as Xanver and his first name was misspelled as Joav) arrived at
Ellis Island on the SS Peninsular on March 18, 1906.
I have written to Ellis Island Foundation to no avail. Last week I checked
twice on FamilySearch microfilm #1323115, which is Manhattan Death Records
for the period of
April 3 - 12, 1906. On Friday, I called the National Archives Regional
Office in New York City and they referred me to the Municipal Archives for
New York City, whom I then called. They suggested that I contact someone
who lives in the New York City area and have that person research on the
microfilm there.

Last Friday I also called the Family History Library in Salt Lake City and
this morning I received their response that amounted to information that I
already had.
They could not find any death or burial information on him. They suggested
I search New York obituaries for that time period.

Does anybody else out there have any other ideas? I have been trying to
track his death record down for just short of 10 years! Any help would be
greatly appreciated!
