I have 3 backups to my computers. One is an external unit that is always connected to my main computer and is programmed to back up at a certain time every evening. I have a smaller, more compact size one that I can carry with my mini that I update once a week and keep in my bank safety deposit box and I am lucky to have a family member who also backs up my data on his computer.
I had my hard drive go a few years ago, luckily, was able to retrieve most, but not all of the data and learned my lesson then. You have to back up your data.....no if, ands or buts.
