I don't know the island or origin. But I am determined to find out more information about Portuguese ancestors. My grandmother was Maria Lorencia Soares (aka Mary Sears) (Oct. 23, 1883 - 1970). She was born in Cambridge, Mass. Her parents were both from The Azores. Her father was Jose M. Soares 7/24/1833 - 5/12/1905), and her mother Joaquina M. ??? (@1842-1922). My grandmother had a sister, Filomena Soares (aka Sears) who married Joseph Machado Evangello. My grandmother also had a brother, "Gene." My great grandparents emigrated to Mass. - - Boston area - - from The Azores. In old family pictures there are some other names noted - - Mitchell (which I understand was the name often taken by people names Machado), Costa, Machado, Evangello. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My email is: [email protected]. My family tree is: Lavely, Hillman, Hiltz, Soares Family Tree in Ancestry.com. Thank you in advance for any help. Diane Lavely
