I've had success finding San Francisco vitals at the Library of Congress
site-Chronicling America. There are pre 1906 San Francisco Call and Morning
Call papers here. They are searchable,

but I've had more luck when I knew a date and went scrolling through page by
page.

There is also the Califonia Digital Newspaper Collection That contains many
1849-1900 newspapers.
