Hi Ricardo, Actually, it's a good question. We get new people to this list all the time. Many are also new to the world of group emails or list-servs. It sounds like now is the time for me (listowner) to go over this for everyone.
This group currently has about 870 email addresses subscribed to it. That's more like 825 people - some people are subscribed under a personal email and a work email. Since everyone is subscribed to a "group" everything goes through the "group" by default. Yes, hitting "Reply" in your email sends your response back to the group! So all 870 people see it. Since this list is called Azores Genealogy, we post genealogy things. We don't post personal things, although sometimes accidents happen and someone might post something personal to the list. I can't stop it from going to the list. Once you hit send, off it goes. I can remove it from the archive or web board though. If you hit your "Reply to All" your message goes to the list and to the person. So the person gets the message twice: Once through the list and once straight from you. That's not helpful, because that person is on the list. Since there are 870 or so people on the list, you've probably noticed that there are not 870 messages. I have many people on this list that just read what's going on. I also have people who don't like to post publicly. They may hit the Reply button and delete the Azores group email address and just put in yours and take it off list. Also, there are times with the conversation (or thread, as we call it) that there are only 2 people talking about it. Many times, one of those people will realize that and then take it off list since no other list members are participating in that topic/thread. Just hit the Reply button for now. If someone has taken it off list (for whatever reason), then you'll be emailing off list. If it's going to the group, then it will go to the group.
