Hello, I haven't really researched my husband's ancestors in a couple years, but do think of them regularly. Someone has gotten me thinking about them this week. I just checked the archives of this Group and it looks like I started joining it in late 2005. So, there is some information in the archives.
For this morning, I've become curious how many people / families lived in the village of Sao Roque on Sao Miguel between 1850 and 1900. (I'm told this village is just southwest of the City of Ponta Delgada.) If that is not known, are there other researchers who have ancestors who lived in Sao Roque during the late 1800's? * I'll just offer a summary of my husband's grandparents and their parents: Antonio Fred? PACHECO, born 1885 in Sao Roque had parents Joao PACHECO and Jacintha (de Jesus) COSTA (I know nothing else about them, so don't know of other children for them.) Elsie Augusta MOURA, born 1893 (unknown village) on Sao Miguel had parents Francisco MOURA and Philomena ROSE (I have a few pieces of information on them. Mrs. "Phoebe" MOURA came to Massachusetts ~1910 with her youngest daughter, Carolina. Another daughter, Rosa, had come over before them. I don't know what happened to Mr. "Frank" MOURA, possibly he went to Brooklyn, NY. There were 2 sons, Francisco, Jr., and Manuel, and I know very little about them.) "Tony" PACHECO reportedly arrived in Massachusetts in 1904. Elsie MOURA reportedly arrived in Massachusetts in 1905 (at Age 12). They married in Cambridge, MA, in 1912, and had 5 children, then twin sons were born one month after Tony was killed in a car accident in 1928. (More details about this family is in the archives of the Azores List at www.rootsweb.com ) Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) (The 3 sisters, Elsie PACHECO, Rosie PERRY, and Carrie MEDEIROS, all were widowed young, but they lived past Age 80 all living in Cambridge, MA, during their later years. Of their brothers, Frank MOURA, left early for San Francisco, CA, and Manny MOURA left early for Brooklyn, NY.) * I've corresponded before with Linda Norton who also has ancestors in the village of Sao Roque. (A year or 2 ago I tried looking through the "passports" for people leaving from Ponta Delgada, and I found the search very time- consuming. At the time I was not able to continue searching.) -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected]. Follow the confirmation directions when they arrive.
