Sorry if this is redundant for some people on this list. We get many new
members every month, so it needs to be repeated frequently. Also for those
who are newer to computers, it takes a while to get used to how list-servs
and groups work.

We currently have a thread titled "Travel to California." It's been going
on for 23 messages/responses. Part of that is because I put them there.
Somehow, someone slightly altered the title to "Traveling to California."
This starts a brand new separate thread. It might as well say "Mickey Mouse
Visits the Azores." People are responding to both "Travel" as well as
"Traveling." Since "Travel" has more responses I'm directing posts there.

So what? Well, that depends on your email settings. If you are in email
mode, you don't care. At least not at this moment. Not until you remember
6 months from now that there was something about traveling to California and
you have just found something out. So you decide to research it on your own
and you find a thread called "Travel to California" and you read 15 messages
there about that and you swear you read it somewhere and it's not there.
That's because not all the message are together anymore. There's a complete
separate thread called "Traveling to California." And you just didn't see
it and you didn't look there. And you can't find the answer to your
question. It gets to be frustrating.

I have my own list of pet peeves. However, when I log into a group or
list-serv or forum, I have to bite my tongue and leave my pet peeves
behind. Grammar and spelling were some of my favorite subjects in school.
It drives me crazy when I see "San Miguel" instead of "Sao Miguel" or a "q"
substituted for a "g" (Miquel for Miguel). But if the original thread is
started with a spelling error or a grammatical error I leave it alone. Does
it drive me crazy? Yes. Is it one of my pet peeves>? Yes. Is it worth
confusing 880 people over a minor spelling or grammar error and creating 2
threads and making a search hard on someone so they can't find the info that
they swear that the read somewhere and some point in time. FLAT OUT NO.
NO, NO, NO.

Please, please, please, look up when you hit reply. Read what the subject
says. If there's a typo or grammatical error in the subject, bite your
tongue and leave it alone. And if the post reminds you of your ancestor
from Corvo who came to Sibeira, do not post it on the "Travel to California"
thread. Also, do not hit reply to "Travel to California" and change the
subject to "Mello from Corvo to Sibeira." It completely screws up the
"threading" of the messages. If your response has nothing to do with
"Travel to California" then close the email and go to your "Compose Email"
or "New Email" button and start from scratch.

If you are very new to list, list-servs, forums, or group emails, email one
of the following administrators and we will help you formulate a response
and explain to you how these groups work (which are different from the old,
archaic method of the Rootsweb lists) (please give us 24 hours to respond
though).

I'm not trying to be mean. I'm not trying to pick on anyone. I'm just
trying to clarify things for everyone so things run fairly smoothly on
everyone's end no matter which mode they are in or when they try to find the
information somewhere in the future.

Thanks for understanding,
