When people get hacked, sometimes the messages get through to the list.
Many times, there is nothing in the email except a link. So many people
advise not to click on the link. Now the hackers are trying to become more
clever and now they try to include info with the link.

Even when we know people on this list, everyone will have an equal
opportunity to be hacked. So they may have spam sent out from their
computer without their knowledge. Most hackers don't know what this list
is about. They are not targeting this list, they are targeting address
books. Another reason why I run a tight ship here. This list is about
genealogy. If a message comes through that is not genealogy, then just
delete it. And most people on this list write in full, complete
sentences. Many of the spam messages use a lot of shorthand, or text type
talk. As in C U L8R for See you later. We don't use shorthand stuff on
this list. Another tip off that the message was not from the original
person, but from someone who has been hacked.

And for those new to this list....when a person is hacked, they go back to
moderated status. They will remain there until they contact me and tell me
that they have had the computer fixed or their email password reset or
whatever. So if it ever happens to you, you'll know what's going on.
