Thanks so much for the advice. Hopefully somewhere in all the records
a
village is mentioned. I have all the dates of arrival for both
grandparents Lopez and Madruga. I have their original marriage
certificate and his original naturalization papers. All records only
state St. Fayal no village. The 1910 Federal Census for Phillipa
Cardoza Madruga states birth place as Atlantic Island, Azores. All the
children for Manuel Madruga and Phillipa were born in the US. All the
Lopez's were born in St. Fayal and became naturalized citizens.

Lopez came from Spain but move to the Azores when he married his first
wife. She died in child birth. Their two sons remained in the Azores.
All the children from his marriage to Florinda were born in St. Fayal.
They arrived in the US in 1884 with their eight children. A relative
told me they came to the US because they hoped to avoid the draft in
Portugal because they had seven boys. I have their records and a lot
of
stories from my grandfather. He lived to be 106. My father died very
young and my grandparents helped raise my brother and myself. My
mother
gave me all the records before she died. I have been searching for
months but cannot find anything else. I guess I need to return to
Massachusetts this summer and try he check records from East Cambridge
and Gloucester. I am sure the spelling of the surnames are correct. I
remember my grandfather telling me his middle name was Rodriquez but
at
Ellis Island they changed it to Roger. I am going to review all the
records I have and hopefully a village is mentioned, The website
Family Search has a wealth of info and it is all free no membership,
etc. Their records are very accurate. I have been researching St.
Fayal. I am seriously thinking for traveling there sometime next year
as finding my roots on both sides is very important. It's top priority
on my bucket list. I am happy I found this group.
