I have ordered several informational copies of the death certificates from Alameda County and it is like the original certificate and the mother's maiden name is on, the only difference is you can't use it for identification purposes. I need to order my Aunties one soon.

Otherwise, you will get an INFORMATIONAL copy, not valid to establish idendity. The only bad thing is that on the informational copy the mother's maiden name MAY be blocked out!
