I have ordered several informational copies of the death certificates from
Alameda County and it is like the original certificate and the mother's
maiden name is on, the only difference is you can't use it for
identification purposes. I need to order my Aunties one soon.

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] CA Birth/Death Costs going UP!

Dear Listers,

According to the Monterey County Gen. Soc newsletter, JanFeb 2012, there
is a bill before the Assembly, AB1053 which will raise the cost of Birth
& Death records in California $9 more dollars. I you need to order any
Birth/Death records you need to do it next week or pay another $9 on top
of whatever your County charges or the State charges!!

According to Janel Davidson, who wrote the article, if you want a
certified copy you need to go in person or have your mail-in application
notarized. Otherwise, you will get an INFORMATIONAL copy, not valid to
establish idendity. The only bad thing is that on the informational copy
the mother's maiden name MAY be blocked out!

For more info about where the bill stands go to:
www.leginfo.ca.gov/bilinfo.html
